The location amongst river scenery and Autumn foliage
The 200 or so steps from the JR Bus Stop which had to be negotiated downhill with baggage. A sign indicating that a Hotel Courtesy Bus at the JR Bus Stop, is in fact actually actually available, would be worth investigating as it means the guest can avoid the downhill trek.

The service was excellent and the staff were all very helpful, friendly and efficient. We had a beautiful view of the river from our room and enjoyed the excellent meals served there. They picked us up from the jr bus stop and dropped us off there when we were leaving. Our room was a large (for Japan) tatami mat room in Japanese style. We slept on very comfortable futons which the staff set up and put away each day. It was warm in the room despite dropping to -2 Celcius outside.
The hotel is starting to show it's age a bit. Some of the hallway carpets and fittings could do with renewal, but they are still all kept clean and tidy.

We got so much value for our money at this authentic, family-owned Ryokan. The room was comfortable and had a beautiful view of nature. The staff treated us like royalty and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The location was perfect for enjoying the tranquility and serenity of the area.
Breakfast offerings could be improved with more variety of choices.

This hotel is a hidden gem nestled in a beautiful leafy location just a 50-minute bus drive from Kyoto. The setting is absolutely spectacular, with the hotel sitting next to a large creek and a steep hillside of trees directly opposite and behind it. The views from the rooms are breathtaking, allowing you to truly immerse yourself in nature. The rooms themselves are still traditional Japanese rooms with rice-paper screens and futons, making for a comfortable and authentic experience. The attention to detail in maintaining the traditional aesthetics is commendable, creating a homey atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere.
All was perfect, no complaints whatsoever.

I recently stayed at a ryokan in Kyoto for one night and it was a wonderful experience. The Takao Kanko Hotel provided a traditional ryokan experience with an in-house communal onsen. The room was spacious and had a heating table with a beautiful view of the river. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. I enjoyed the delicious breakfast and hot pot dinner, which were prepared right in front of me. The hotel is located in a peaceful and secluded area, allowing for exploration of nearby temples and the charming river.
I would highly recommend this hotel.
